I need prayers for my sexual addiction or pornography addiction.

It is something I thought I had gotten away from but I guess not I’ve been a christian since 1983 and I married a wonderful women in 1984 and our marriage was good for the first 5 to six yrs.I had anger problems and I was a alcoholic/drug addict.

We have 2 beautiful children who are very committed to serving Christ.But thats not the problem I am,we were together for 16yrs.until she could take no more.We’ve been seperated for almost 10yrs.My marriage fell apart because of my anger,alcoholism/drug addiction,and things she said I lied about to her.Our sexual relations ended because of this and I started to view porn and sexually abuse myself.

I’ve had some problems as to being sexually abused when I was in the military and I was extremely intoxicated when it happened.It has always bothered me and I’ve even gotten counseling for it,but Satan constantly reminds me of it.

I’ve gotten counseling for my anger and alcoholism/drug addiction and God has helped me and taken it away from me.I stopped viewing pornography and have been trying to be very committed to Christ.But recently I’ve looking at it again because of loneliness and depression and then I feel extremely dirty afterwards.

I don’t want to look at this stuff and I hate looking at it.But I’m having a great deal of trouble fighting it,and it is a sin I can’t seem to conquer.I’m asking for prayer and I’m asking for help because when this happens it hurts in my heart and in my spirit.

I live alone and I’m medically retired and I don’t have many friends.My wife doesn’t want anything to do with me,but I don’t beieve in divorce.

I apologize for being long winded and talking about everything in my life but I’m asking for your help with this pornography problem.Thank you for listening.

Please pray for Steven. We all have our strengths and weakness in dealing with Christian sexual addiction. But I just praise the Lord that we can all support each other through the power of prayer.

A wonderful message called Gain of the Christian Conqueror offers readers a lesson that we would be prudent to pay heed to.

The phrase “We are more than conquerors” suggests that a person gains more in his attempt to reach a goal than he does in actually reaching the goal. The goal itself is not the ultimate victory. The trials faced in reaching a goal strengthen us and help us grow spiritually and break free from sexual sin.

We must be careful to avoid falling into a trap of thinking that every trial we are faced with is a trial that will make us stronger. When we go through trials, we have to consciously decide that we are going to meet the adversity head on and come out on the other side a better person.

Otherwise, we may find ourselves doubting God and giving in to some very destructive paths of thinking. We must resist sin and remain grounded in our faith in order to virtuously weather the storm.

Let’s think about this for a moment, because the idea that our transgressions make us stronger is a widely accepted by men, but is a fallacy. You may have heard someone say that we have to dwell in the darkness to be able to recognize the beauty of the light.

In other words, we have to know sin in order to know righteousness. Scores of popular theologians teach this most dangerous of doctrines! They spout empty proverbs such as “Boys will be boys” and “We’re only human” in an attempt to condone sexual sin.

They tell us it’s okay to go out and sow our wild oats now because when we’re older, we’ll be all the wiser for it. The idea that it’s okay to sin now because it will teach us how to live better in the future is completely false and contrary to Paul’s teachings.

Paul tells us that by resisting temptation and handling ourselves in a Godly way through our times of trial, we will come out wise and stronger. He doesn’t tell us that falling into sin will make us stronger.

Each sin we commit, even the smallest one in the eyes of man, can completely distort our view of what is right and what is wrong. Think of lying. It might be hard for us to tell that first lie, but the next is easier, and the one after that even more so, until we lies flow from our mouths just like the truth.

Every sin we commit not only hurts our relationship with God, but it damages our influence with people who do not know God. We have to strive to do good, and good is worlds away from evil.

Do you think that someone who has lived in a hole and has never seen the beautiful light of dawn rising over the mountains knows more of its beauty than the one who created the beauty and knows every glorious detail, every hue of the sunrise, well enough to paint it by heart?

No! That person who has lived in sin is so in debt to the mercy and goodness of our Savior that he won’t be able to enjoy the good gifts from God the way that one who has refrained from sin will.

It is a falsehood to say that one must know sin in order to know righteousness, and it is just as false to say that our failures make us stronger. Where we have our victory is in resisting temptation.

There are opportunities to sin on every hand, but it takes a truly sound and steadfast faith to do what we know is right. I will admit that a person who has been forgiven after having lived a very sinful life may be more grateful to God than a person who has lived according to God’s word from a child.

But, I don’t think that the person who has lived a very sinful life and has been forgiven is any stronger. True strength comes from walking daily in faith and dealing with our sexual sin. Paul speaks to us about turning away from temptation, and we must do that every day in our walk with God in order to grow as Christians.

My name is Brenda. My husband, is a Christian in theory, but because of his addiction, he is not really a Christian at heart. His addiction started when he was in middle school by being a “peeping tom”. It progressed in college with pornography.

After a few years of marriage to me, he became a full blown dangerous addict, sleeping with many prostitutes and having multiple girlfriends. All this behind my back of course. Eventually I found out. Even now he is seeing atleast 2 girls. I don’t divorce him because I still believe that God can heal him.

Also, my sons LOVE their daddy. But emotionally I feel divorced from him. I love him only as a lost brother in Christ who needs my prayer. He always says he loves me, and I believe he thinks he does, but I know that an addict is only capable of loving his addiction. I would be very grateful to anyone who would be willing to pray for him.

You asked me to share my story so here i am. It started when i was eleven. I found japanese cartoonish pictures. after that i would return to the site once a month. I would feel guilty for weeks after and i would promise myself i would never do it again. What a freaking lie.

it got to where i would watch porn once a week and now usually once every four days. the stuff has gotten worse and worse. now i sturggle with homosexuality in porn which i think has some stuff that happened when i was a kid but i can’t be sure. God has been working in me. I have joined a course called setitng the captives free which has been helpfull. i have made a weekd for the first time in what i think is a few years.

I have hope now that one day i might be free. Just pray for encouregment adn that god would forgive me everytime i fall and WIll one day take me from my mess and make me pure. i want to feel his love again.

Please pray for Zach in regards to Christian sexual addiction in whatever way the Lord leads you. He is a true brother in Christ and really wants to have purity in his life.

  My story is ‘common’ as every youth. I was addicted to porn and masturbation. But when I offered my whole life to Christ, I saw the need to break free from my addiction. There were materials and books that helped me such as ‘Bondage Breaker’, ‘Living Waters’, ‘Not Even A Hint’, etc. I also asked advice and prayers from fellow Christians. And by God’s grace I threw away all my pornographic materials and started a habit of just using the internet at public places.

But despite removing pornography there is still plain old lust (masturbation, and looking lustfully at others) to deal with. And so far I have learned that the best way to deal with lust is to pray without ceasing, to constantly read the Bible and to rely on the Holy Spirit not on my own strength. There are times that I am victorious, but there are also times that I yield to temptations. It is during those times that I repent and be washed by the blood of Christ, and fight again. All is by God’s daily sufficient grace.

  Now as time passed (still single) I grew tired of fighting and allowed my flesh desires to do what he wants. Masturbation became more frequent and less repentant (if there is such a thing) and I was slowly returning to porn. It was only when I was aware of it’s affect on my relationship with God and others close to me that I remembered my reason to fight back. I fight for Christ.

Now as time passed (still single) I grew tired of fighting and allowed my flesh desires to do what he wants. Masturbation became more frequent and less repentant (if there is such a thing) and I was slowly returning to porn. It was only when I was aware of it’s affect on my relationship with God and others close to me that I remembered my reason to fight back. I fight for Christ. I am just thankful for this fighting spirit that God has given me. For I believe that one of the marks of a Christian is not a perfect life but a life that fights.

I think it is a great idea even if we are still dealing with Christian sexual addiction. It is nice to take a peak into what the future might look like to see that all the battles your fighting could be used to help somebody else.

Just read this post on Blazing Grace about a guy who now can’t have children becuase of masturbation. I know it may sound kind of far fetched but it is one of those things that nobody tells anybody else about the consequences of masturbation or masturbation addiction.

It also love the last paragraph that talks about making sure you give yourself completly to your wife with all your mind body and soul.

Or, another common scenario, you’re looking through you tube for some interesting videos and after a blink of eye you’re caught watching porn. The next thing you know you’ve already masturbated. Then, you ask yourself, did that just happen and is that Christian sexual addiction?

You messed up, so how do you make things right?

Our wonderful counselor, Jesus, brings us the answer. I’ll paraphrase and modernize a story that our Counselor tells us about two men that you might find encouraging. Click here to read the original story. The first man was an esteemed elder at the local church. He was a good man and did a lot of great things; his name was Elder Good.

The second man was a shady collections agent, who had done quite a few devious deals to get as much profit from his clients as possible. His name was Agent Bad. As the story goes Elder Good and Agent Bad both drove to the church to pray. There were a couple of people inside, so Elder Good went in and offered up a prayer to God. He told God about all the great things that he had been doing, such as, fasting and tithing his income. He also thanked God that he wasn’t like other people in the world, some of which were unjust, adulators, extortionists, or even like Agent Bad whom he saw driving to the church to pray.

Now, Agent Bad knew he wanted to pray to God. He felt terrible about the shady things he had done. In fact, one of the latest things he’d done that made him feel terrible was looking up porn on the Internet and masturbating. Agent Bad knew he couldn’t justify all the things he had done wrong; he didn’t have a bag full of exceptional things like Elder Good had. Agent Bad felt too ashamed to go into the church so instead put his head down on his steering wheel and started to cry. He thought about all of his family and friends who counted on him as a role model and the trust that he had broken with them.

His crying soon turned into sobbing, and he hit himself on the chest because he felt miserable. All he could get out between sobs was, “God have mercy on me, because I’m a sinner.” Agent Bad didn’t have a whole lot more to say than that; it was all he could get out. The two men then went home, but the curious thing was that Elder Good didn’t feel any different after praying.

On the other hand, Agent Bad felt terrific. It was like he had a new energy and enthusiasm about him, like the day he had graduated from collections school. Agent Bad felt like the world was a jug and he had the cork. The best word that he could use to describe what happened to him after praying on his steering wheel was that he felt justified.

Agent Bad was even considering changing his last name:)

It’s not what you say, but how you say it.

Have you ever heard this growing up? Maybe you’ve even said it to your own children. If you did hear it growing up, it was probably in a situation where you had done something wrong and needed to apologize. The only problem was that you didn’t feel sorry, so instead you just said the words, “I’m sorry”. Then an adult would say “you need to say it like you mean it”.

I believe this is what the story above is trying to teach us about Christian sexual addiction. There are times when Christians come to God with just the words, “I’m sorry.” When we come to God, and ask for forgiveness, we need to humble ourselves. Only by humbling ourselves will we feel justified. Many times when Christians sin they feel so unworthy, much like agent Bad did in the parking lot.

I’ve known people who have felt like kneeling before God was even too high of a position to take, but would rather lie down on their faces before him when confessing. These people then start pouring their heart out to God.

Their prayers may go something like this….. “God, I don’t understand why I keep doing this. I try over and over again but I keep failing. I just feel horrible right now and so disconnected from you. I’m angry and mad at myself for doing this and I need for you to forgive me for this. I hate feeling so dirty inside. God please forgive me. I need you in my life; I don’t ever want to do this again. Have mercy on me God; I’m a sinner. Let me feel you again God. Please, forgive me. I really need you too.”

Feeling justified won’t happen by simply repeating the prayer I just presented. Instead, it is pouring out your heart to God until there is no more to pour out. This is what the Bible talks about when it says you need to humble yourself. Agent Bad walked away justified because he humbled himself, in which God exalted him, and made him feel great.

Elder Good, on the other hand, didn’t humble himself at all and when he was finished praying felt the same way as when he came in. In order to relate this story to Christian sexual addiction, I believe this is the way Christians feel after they sin.

Christians feel humiliated because of what they just did, but to feel justified they must humble themselves further. I’m sure that after looking at porn and masturbating most people don’t feel a burning desire to pray to God, but the cost of not making things right with God can have a much larger negative impact.

Here are some of the things that people can experience after looking at porn and masturbating:

1. Addiction Anger and grievances toward God
2. Separation from God Feeling blocked from God’s love working through you
3. Strongholds formed
4. Spiritual confusion
5. Emotional confusion
6. Disconnect from a spouse
7. Distorted understanding of love Long-lasting memories
8. Loneliness Temperamental and depressed
9. Loss of control
10. Lack of enjoyment or happiness
11. Lack of peace or contentment
12. Little to no communication with a spouse
13. Everything seems to turn into a temptation
14. Old lust memories start coming back
15. The mind wanders and fantasizes
16. Lack of motivation to do anything
17. Nothing seems important

A Better Way.

Please don’t sell yourself short. When God forgives you, he also wants you to feel forgiven. I know sometimes Christians feel like they need to punish themselves for their Christian sexual addiction.

This is a dangerous way to live because if you feel bad long enough you’ll probably have a need to feel better and there is a good chance that you will turn back to porn. If you let this self-punishment cycle continue it can lead to some major destruction in your life and will eventually start affecting the people around you.

What’s the alternative? Just humble yourself! Take advantage of the wonderful forgiveness and justification that God has to offer. God isn’t asking you to beat yourself up or condemn yourself for your Christian sexual addiction. When Jesus died on the cross he died for the sin of you looking at porn on the Internet and then masturbating. If you hold onto that sin then what you are saying is, I know God forgave me, but I’m not going to do what it takes to feel forgiven. I’m sure this makes God sad, since he already provided a way to take away not only your sins but all the guilt and shame as well for any Christian sexual addiction.

God is not asking you to give up your money, house or spending cash. All he is asking is that you humble your self. It’s not hard to do. Just give him your heart; it’s free anyways.
